Just a couple of days after receiving an official title and release date, Joker may be adding another star to to its cast with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Zazie Beetz is currently in final talks to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the film.
If the talks are successful, Beetz would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the “Clown Prince of Crime.” Beetz is no stranger to the superhero genre having recently played mutant mercenary Domino in Deadpool 2. She also stars in FX’s Atlanta.
Joker will be directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover trilogy) from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver. The film will begin production in September and is said to be an exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale. It will be a standalone film separate from the rest of the DCEU continuity.
