Rumour: The Batman inspired by Year One, Jack Huston has met for Dark Knight role

July 25, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With the lack of any kind of official news on The Batman during Warner Bros.’ DC Films panel at San Diego Comic-Con International, it seems it’s open season once more when it comes to rumours on the Dark Knight’s next big screen outing.

Now, you may want to take this with a pinch of salt, but according to Revenge of the Fans, director Matt Reeves will be taking inspiration from Frank Miller and Dave Mazzucchelli’s classic 1987 story arc Batman: Year One, which details Bruce Wayne’s early days as Batman, as well as James Gordon’s introduction to Gotham City.

If true, this supports the previous report from the usually-reliable trade Deadline, which suggested that the movie will be a “reboot” featuring a younger version of The Dark Knight. And adding to that, Revenge of the Fans claims that Reeves has met with Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Ben-Hur) about succeeding Ben Affleck as The Bat, although the British actor won’t be taking on the role, but may appear as Harvey Dent.

Last week, a different rumour claimed that The Court of Owls and The Penguin will serve as the film’s villains, and it would be easy enough to incorporate them into a Year One-inspired story. That being said, with so many rumours about The Batman doing the rounds, it’s hard to know what to believe at this point.

Are you excited about the prospect of a Year One-style movie for The Batman? And if we are getting a younger actor, who would you like to see under the cape and cowl? Let us know in the comments…
