Warner Bros. has snapped up the film rights to War Horse author Michael Morpurgo’s Toto, a retelling of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of Dorothy’s faithful canine companion.
The studio has tapped Mark Burton (Shaun the Sheep, Early Man, Gnomeo & Juliet) to pen the script for an animated adaptation of the book, which will be executive produced by Jared Stern, writer on The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie.
Toto becomes the latest addition to the Warner Animation Group slate, which includes Smallfoot, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, The Billion Brick Race, Scooby and Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat.
