Deadline is reporting that Alec Baldwin (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) has signed on to portray Thomas Wayne in Todd Phillips’ Joker movie for Warner Bros. and DC Films.
Thomas Wayne is of course the father of Bruce Wayne, and his murder ultimately inspires his son to dedicate his life to fighting crime as Gotham’s protector, The Batman.
Apparently, the Joker version of Thomas will be depicted as “a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump”. Baldwin is said to have been cast in the role after Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings) passed on the opportunity.
Is past rumours are to be believed, Thomas will have a key role in the plot of Joker. You can read more here, but beware of potential spoilers.

Joker is slated for release on October 4th 2019 and will see Joaquin Phoenix (You Were Never Really Here) portraying the Clown Prince of Crime alongside a cast that also includes Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Alec Baldwin (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story) and Marc Meron (GLOW).
