Due for release on 7th September, Brad Furman’s investigative crime drama City of Lies, starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, has been pulled from US cinemas mere weeks before release.
Reopening the casefile on the infamous murders of The Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur, the movie was set to be released by Global Road Entertainment, yet The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that it will no longer bow in US cinemas. No reason has been given, nor has a new release date been scheduled.
Speculation will be rife as to the reason for the move, but the production has run concurrently with Depp’s much publicised troubles, with a crew member threatening to sue the actor for an alleged on-set altercation during filming.
Based on the true story of one of the most notorious and unsolved cases in recent time, CITY OF LIES is a provocative thriller revealing a never-before-seen look at the infamous murder of The Notorious B.I.G. shortly following the death of Tupac.
