Earlier this month it was revealed that Jessica Chastain is to produce and star in the action thriller Eve – news that was met with controversy, given that the film has been written and directed by Matthew Newton (Who We Are Now), a filmmaker has a long history of domestic violence and alleged assault allegations.
In the wake of the backlash, Newton announced that he’d be stepping down as director on the project, and now comes word that Chastain has enlisted her The Help director Tate Taylor to take over the reins on the film.
Eve will see Chastain taking on the role of a female assassin, but specific plot details are being kept under wraps. Tate is currently working on Blumhouse’s Ma, reuniting him with another cast member of The Help in Octavia Spencer, while he is also developing The Eyes of Tammy Faye with Chastin.
Chastain has recently wrapped production on the Stephen King horror sequel It: Chapter Two, and will soon be taking part in reshoots for next year’s Fox / Marvel superhero blockbuster X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
