Back in July the BBC announced the start of production on its eight-part adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, and it seems the corporation feels confident that it has a hit on its hands as Deadline is reporting that it has now ordered a second eight-episode series.
His Dark Materials is being produced by Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema, and features a star-studded cast that includes Dafne Keen (Logan), James McAvoy (Split), Ruth Wilson (The Affair), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Clarke Peters (The Wire), Ariyon Bakare (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror), Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless), Ian Gelder (Game of Thrones), James Cosmo (Game of Thrones) and Will Keen (Wolf Hall). Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), Dawn Shadforth (Trust) and Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) are directing.
Based on Pullman’s trilogy of fantasy novels – Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass – the story follows two children, Lyra and Will, as they journey through a series of parallel universes.
