Following on from Danny Boyle’s departure due to creative differences, Eon has now announced that True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga is set to direct Bond 25.
“We are delighted to be working with Cary,” said Eon’s Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. “His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”
In addition to the first season of True Detective, Fukunaga’s credits include the Netflix series Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, as well as the feature film Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba.
Several directors had been rumoured to be in contention for Bond 25 including Yann Demange (White Boy Rick), David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water), Jean-Marc Vallee (Big Little Lies), Edgar Wright (Baby Driver), S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) and Bart Layton (American Animals) .

The release date for Bond 25 is now set for February 14th 2020 – some four months later than its originally planned October 25th 2019 date. The film will see Daniel Craig making his fifth and final appearance as Ian Fleming’s super spy, and has 007 veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade working on its script.
