MGM and Orion Pictures have announced that production on the remake of the 80s cult classic Child’s Play is now underway, with the studios unveiling a first look at Chucky in the Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) directed film as well as announcing the casting of Aubrey Plaza (Legion), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out).
Much like the original film, the new Child’s Play “follows a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Production is currently underway in Vancouver.”
Neither franchise creator Don Mancini or Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif will have any involvement with this remake, although they are set to reunite for a small screen continuation of the original film series, which Mancini recently teased.
As yet there’s no word on a release date for the new Child’s Play, but we’ll keep you posted.
