In an interview for Empire Magazine, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura made it clear Die Hard 6 is going the origin story route. Not only did the film get a new title, McClane, but there are more plot details. According to the report, the sequel/prequel features Willis as a 60-year-old McClane with a younger version of McClane in his 20s. It will be a more in-depth piece about the character. “You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, McClane,” said Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Di Bonaventura added that “we want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before.” He went on to add that there will be just as much screen time with young John McClane as there will be with older McClane. “I don’t know how you do Die Hard without Bruce,” he said.

There aren’t too many more details about the film, but it’s been previously reported that Live Free Or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is returning for this project. The Empire Magazine article also stated that The Conjuring’s Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes wrote this script.
The first Die Hard movie was based on the Roderick Thorp novel Nothing Lasts Forever and was released in 1988. It was directed by John McTiernan and became an instant classic. The film spawned four sequels, with the latest entry A Good Day To Die Hard earning a little over $300 million.
