Kate Beckinsale discusses how she almost played Wonder Woman

September 13, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Actress Kate Beckinsale has opened up about how she almost played Wonder Woman, also saying that she’s happy it didn’t work out.

Now that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is out in the wild, it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing her on the big screen and with the huge success of the first film, it’s likely she will be hanging around in the role for quite some time.

The truth is, however, that a Wonder Woman movie has been attempted in one form or another for many years prior to the DCEU and one actress that nearly played the part was Kate Beckinsale of Underworld fame.

Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, Beckinsale discussed how the part almost became hers in the mid-2000s: “Yes, there was a period of time, a long time ago, when [producer] Joel Silver was involved with it. But it worked out beautifully. That was a wonderful film that Gal [Gadot] did.”

Beckinsale also said that it was probably for the best nothing happened with that particular movie: “No. It would have been a terrible movie based on the script that I read.”

Well, it certainly sounds like things all worked out in the end, especially given Beckinsale’s description of the script’s merits (or lack thereof). It’s always interesting, however, to wonder what might have been if various projects had taken off.
