Tom Hardy discusses potential for R-rated Venom sequel

September 27, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Tom Hardy has revealed that he would be happy to see an R-rated sequel to Venom.

Sony’s Venom movie is certainly distancing itself from the vast majority of other Marvel films by focusing on not a hero but one of the comic’s most popular villains, and while the upcoming film is a family-friendly affair (reportedly as Sony is still hoping to cross over with the MCU at a future date), the character certainly lends itself to something more adult down the road.

Tom Hardy is someone who thinks this is a possibility, seeing the potential for an R-rated sequel to the film. Speaking to MTV, the actor said: “To be fair the thing could fulcrum into R-rated. It can fulcrum into for youth or children. My littlest ones they watch Spider-Man and Venom quite comfortably, and Venom toys appear and LEGO appear in my nostrils in the morning. So it’s not like they’re scared by him, but at the same time, there’s a lot with the real estate that you can actually imbue with a complete sense of gratuitous ultraviolence if you really wanted to. And I think you’ve got the right people for that job if you want to push it because that’s where I’d love to go with it. And I’d love to go through all The Avengers as well with him. But that’s above my pay grade.”

Hardy’s comments about going through The Avengers is sure to catch attention, perhaps fancying Venom’s chances in a tussle with the famed heroes. What do you think? Should Venom look to an R-rated future?
