This coming week sees the release of Venom, the first of a planned series of Spider-Man spinoff movies (minus Spidey) in a shared cinematic universe under the banner of ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’.
Sony has several projects in the pipeline for this venture, including Morbius, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven the Hunter, Silk, Nightwatch, and Jackpot, and it seems that The Living Vampire is set to become the second out of the gate.
“We’re obviously working on Morbius now,” said producer Matt Tolmach in an interview with Comic Book. “That’s sort of next up for us.”
Tolmach went on to state that Jared Leto will bring “awesomeness” to the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, and that we should expect “a similar level of intensity and charisma and devotion to the character” as Leto gave to The Joker in Suicide Squad.
Hopefully that doesn’t mean Leto will be employing method techniques such as biting his co-stars and sending them vials of blood…
Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is attached to direct Morbius, and there have been rumours that Sony is looking to get the film into production as early as November.
