James Wan, the director of Aquaman, and Jason Momoa, the film’s star, both have plans for potential sequels.
While the DCEU is in an ever nebulous state, if a film does well a sequel stands a great chance of being greenlit. This is what Aquaman director James Wan is hoping for and he has some plans if it should happen.
Speaking to Total Film Magazine (via Comic Book Movie), Wan said: “There’s definitely stories, even within the world we’ve created, that you can actually see other storylines [spinning off from] as well. There’s the Aquaman story, but then there’s the stories of the seven different kingdoms as well. I think those would be very fun to explore.”
Wan isn’t the only one looking to the future, however, as Jason Momoa also has an idea for an Aquaman sequel. Speaking to Syfy Wire, the actor said: “I definitely have an opinion. Even when we were shooting Aquaman, I have the opening of Aquaman 2 ready. I went in and pitched it to [producer Peter] Safran, and I pitched it to [Warner Bros. chairman] Toby Emmerich. They loved it. It’s awesome…But yeah, I have plans for Aquaman 2.”
We will have to wait and see if Aquaman can reach a level of success to warrant any action on the above plans, but let us know in the comments below where you’d like to see the Aquaman franchise going should the movie prove to be a hit.
