Black Panther’s Letitia Wright to star in Le Brio remake

November 7, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Variety is reporting that Black Panther star Letitia Wright is set to executive produce and star in a remake of the Cesar-nominated French comedy drama Le Brio, which is being produced by Dimitri Rassam (The Little Prince) and John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Company.

The 2017 film revolves around the relationship between a young French-Arab woman from an underprivileged neighbourhood and a brilliant but prejudiced professor who is forced to coach her for an annual speech contest. Wright will take on the role of the female lead in the remake, which will “explore the complex relationship between a student and a professor who come from different ethnic and social backgrounds”, although it will drop the speech competition angle.

“With Get Lifted Film Company’s great creative input, the remake will have more of a political bend than the French film to reflect the current tense climate and race relations in U.S.,” said Rassam. “Ultimately, the film will show how sharing knowledge can help build bridges between people from different generations and backgrounds, as well as help people overcome their own prejudices and anger.”

The search is currently underway for a director on the Le Brio remake, which is slated to go into production next year. Rassam meanwhile is also developing both a German and Italian remake of the film.

2018 has proven to be a breakout year for Letitia Wright thanks to her roles in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ready Player One. She will next be seen reprising her role as Shuri in next year’s as-yet-untitled Avengers 4.
