Despite coming off the back of a highly acclaimed third season, the superhero series Daredevil fell victim to Netflix’s Marvel clear-out this morning with the streaming service announcing that the Man Without Fear has become the latest of its Defenders series to get the axe after Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
Despite the cancellation, Netflix’s official announcement offered fans a glimmer of hope with its comments that “the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel”, and now Marvel has released its own statement, confirming that there will be indeed more “adventures” for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
Marvel is extremely grateful to the huge audience that loved Marvel’s Daredevil. From the moment of young Matt’s first act of heroism to the birth of Page, Murdock, & Nelson, it has been a unbelievable journey. We are incredibly proud of the amazing showrunners and writers starting with Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight, Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie and Erik Oleson, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D’Onofrio and our casts who brought our characters to life with such excellence, and every one of the fantastic crews in NYC. We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future.
This now begs the question as to just what these “adventures” might be: guest appearances in either Jessica Jones season 3 or The Punisher season 2? A fourth season of the show on Disney’s upcoming streaming service? A feature film appearance for Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock? Or could we see a reboot of the character, either on the small screen or the big?
