Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo join Cats movie

November 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect 3) has become the latest addition to the cast of Cats, the upcoming Universal and Working Title adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

The film is being directed by Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) and sees Wilson joining an ensemble cast that includes Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Judi Dench, and Royal Ballet dancers Steven McRae and Francesca Hayward.

Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical tells the story of the Jellicles on the night the make “the Jellicle choice”, deciding which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.

Wilson will next be seen in the romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic alongside Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine and Priyanka Chopra, which opens on Valentine’s Day 2019, and also has the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake The Hustle and Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit set for release later in the year.

UPDATE: It has also been announced that singer-songwriter Jason Derulo is set to make his feature debut in the film, playing the rebellious Rum Tum Tugger.
