Disney and Lucasfilm’s feature film plans for the Star Wars saga may be a little up in the air post-Star Wars: Episode IX, with Disney chief Bob Iger having told fans to expect a “slowdown” in the wake of Solo: A Star Wars Story’s disappointing box office run.
It would seem however that this slowdown doesn’t apply to the small screen; we’ve recently had the launch of the new animated series Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set for a revival, and Jon Favreau is currently hard at work on the franchise’s first live-action TV show The Mandalorian.
Well, we can now add a second live-action show to that list, as Iger has revealed that Lucasfilm is in development on another series, this time focussing on formative years of Rebel spy Cassian Andor, with Diego Luna on board to reprise his role from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
The series is described as “a rousing spy thriller [which will] explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.” As with The Mandalorian, it is being produced for Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+.
