Even before Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse debuted to stellar reviews, Sony Pictures had announced that it will be fleshing out its new animated Spider-Verse with both a sequel and a Spider-Women spinoff, and now producer Amy Pascal has revealed some brief details about both projects.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, former Sony chief Pascal said that the Into the Spider-Verse sequel will explore a romance between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, something which was originally planned for the first movie, but was ultimately cut from Phil Lord’s script.
Meanwhile, Pascal also went on to reveal that the three Spider-Women character set to feature in the female-led spinoff will be Spider-Gwen, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and Cindy Moon/Silk – the latter of whom is also set to receive a live-action solo movie as part of ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’.
The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender) from a script by David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984), while Lauren Montgomery (Voltron Legendary Defender) is reportedly being lined up to direct Bek Smith’s (Zoo) script for Spider-Women.
