Bumblebee director says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 talk is “just a rumour”

December 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With a James Gunn-sized hole to fill on the cosmic superhero sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it was rumoured last month that Marvel Studios had identified Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee director Travis Knight as the man to round out the Guardians trilogy.

Well, it seems those rumours may have been wide of the mark, as Knight has told BadTaste that he plans on following up this month’s Transformers spinoff by returning to the world of animation at LAIKA, the company behind Kubo and the Two Strings.

“After Bumblebee, my goal is to return to work at the animation studio LAIKA, my ‘child’, bringing with me all the experience I have gained with [Bumblebee],” he explained. “I’m a huge fan of what Marvel did, it’s no surprise  and for anyone to know that as a child I was a huge fan of comics. But no, it’s just a rumor!”

Now, it’s possible that this is misdirection on Knight’s part, particularly if he is in talks with Marvel, but for the time being it seems the studio’s search for Gunn’s replacement continues.
