Deadline is reporting that Kate Winslet (The Mountain Between Us) and Saoirse Ronan (Mary, Queen of Scots) have signed on to star in the romantic drama Ammonite, which is being written and directed by Francis Lee (God’s Own Country).
Ammonite will take place in the 1840s in a UK coastal town, and will follow “the unlikely romance between palaeontologist Mary Anning and a London woman of means to whom she must unexpectedly play nursemaid.”
Filming on Ammonite is set to get underway in March, with Widows producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman producing alongside Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly (Lady Macbeth) for See-Saw, the BFI, and BBC Films.
