The CW has announced that it has ordered pilots for spinoffs to two of its hit shows in Riverdale and Jane the Virgin, along with a reboot of Nancy Drew, THR is reporting.
First up is Katy Keene, a second spinoff from Riverdale after Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which will revolve around fashion-legend-to-be Katy and three of her Archie Comics friends as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. The pilot is being developed by Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is writing the script with Michael Grassi, and will be produced by Berlanti Productions.
The Jane the Virgin spinoff, titled Jane the Novella, was first announced back in December and is intended as an anthology series, with each season based upon a fictional novel written by Gina Rodriguez’s Jane Villanueva. Rodriguez will serve as narrator, while the script is being written by Valentina Garza, who will executive produce with Rodriguez and Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman.
Finally, the as-yet-untitled Nancy Drew pilot is being written by The O.C.’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage with Noga Landau (The Magicians), and will follow the teen detective as she graduates high school but is forced to put her college ambitions on hold for a year after a family tragedy.
The three projects take The CW’s pilot orders up to five, following on from the Ruby Rose-headlined Arrowverse spinoff Batwoman and the recently announced small screen adaptation of the iconic 80s vampire horror-comedy The Lost Boys.
