Variety is reporting that Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is set to step into the shoes of Tony Todd, having been cast in the title role in MGM and producer Jordan Peele’s upcoming Candyman film.
Directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) and said to be a “spiritual sequel” to the original 1992 horror, the new Candyman “will return to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.” Further plot details are being kept under wraps.

Abdul-Mateen starred as the villain Black Manta in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ superhero blockbuster Aquaman this past December, and will next be seen in Jordan Peele’s new horror Us, along with HBO’s Watchmen TV series.
Filming on Candyman is set to get underway in the spring ahead of a release on June 12th 2020.
