Although it was originally intended as one of Marvel’s first Phase Four releases (and due to begin production early this year), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was put on the back burner following Disney’s decision to fire director James Gunn over some questionable tweets from his past.
While Gunn has since moved on to the DC Extended Universe, with the filmmaker set to write and direct The Suicide Squad, Marvel is yet to enlist a replacement for him on the third Guardians movie, leaving its status up in the air somewhat.
In recent weeks, both Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and Kraglin actor Sean Gunn have both stated that Guardians Vol. 3 is still happening, and now leading man Chris Pratt has also echoed that sentiment.
“I promise there’ll be a third movie, I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way,” the Star-Lord actor tells Variety.
That’s certainly good news for Guardians fans, although we may face a lengthy wait for the third movie given that Marvel Studios now appears to be focusing its attention on other projects such as Black Widow, The Eternals, Doctor Strange 2 and Black Panther 2.
