Since Hasbro’s acquisition of the Power Rangers brand last year in a $522 million deal, it’s been reported on several occasions that the toy giant will waste little time in bringing the teen superheroes back to the big screen with a new movie.
Well, it seems that is indeed the case, as Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has revealed that talks are now underway with Paramount Pictures about a new Power Rangers movie.
Hasbro and its Allspark Pictures division has previously teamed with Paramount on several projects, including the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies, as well as the planned Micronauts film set for release in 2020.
Goldner made the announcement during a financial call with investors, and while it wasn’t explicitly stated, it appears that the new Power Rangers film will be another reboot rather than a continuation of the 2017 feature starring Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G and Ludi Lin, which underperformed at the box office with a $142 million gross off a production budget of $105 million.
