It may not have impressed critics, but the 2017 musical The Greatest Showman certainly resonated with audiences, with the Hugh Jackman-headlined film grossing $435 million worldwide, and its soundtrack album spending a total of 28 weeks at the top of the UK chart – tying with The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Given this success, it will come as little surprise to hear that 20th Century Fox is already in the early stages of a sequel to the film, which is expected to see Hugh Jackman reprising his role as P.T. Barnum.
“When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it’s only natural there is demand for a sequel,” director Michael Gracey revealed to The Sun during an interview this week. “So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now.”
