Back in December it was announced that Beverly Hills, 90210 stars Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris are working on a revival of the hit 90s teen drama – albeit one that will take the form of a mockumentary, with the cast members playing fictionalised versions of themselves.
Now, during an interview with E!’s Daily Pop!, Tori Spelling has offered some insight into the show, which has been receiving major interest from both networks and streaming outlets:
“It’s not technically a reboot, because I feel like everyone has seen the reboot,” said Spelling. “We don’t want to be the last ones like doing the reboot thing, and no one wants to see like old versions of ourselves, but they do want to see us playing our characters, so what we’re doing is the entire cast is playing heightened versions of themselves.”
“Think Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes, in an hourlong show, and we’re all playing heightened versions, so it could be fictional, it could be non-fictional, people will have to guess,” she continued. “And then we will have pop-ins, because we’re behind the scenes trying to do the reboot.”
Spelling also went on to reveal that Luke Perry “will do as many episodes as he can” but won’t be a series regular due to his role in Riverdale, while Shannen Doherty is not involved as yet but “we would love to have her on”.
