Watch Pixar’s first SparkShorts film Purl

February 7, 2019 by George Chrysostomou

Ahead of the release of the Disney+ streaming service, the House of Mouse’s various divisions have been working on brand new content that to be ready for the launch of the platform.

With Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm working on TV shows, Pixar has launched its SparkShorts initiative, a series of short films made by creators across the company, using their stellar technology and storytelling skills.

The first shorts are to be released on YouTube, and the film that has the honour of being the inaugural SparkShort is Purl, the story of a ball of yarn that feels uncomfortable in her new work place and depicts parallels with how it feels to be a woman in a male dominated office space.

And here’s a preview of future Pixar SparkShorts…

“Purl, directed by Kristen Lester and produced by Gillian Libbert-Duncan, features an earnest ball of yarn named Purl who gets a job in a fast-paced, high energy, bro-tastic start-up. Yarny hijinks ensue as she tries to fit in, but how far is she willing to go to get the acceptance she yearns for, and in the end, is it worth it?”

Purl will be followed by the YouTube and YouTube Kids debuts of Smash and Grab on February 11th, and Kitbull on February 18th.
