More than a year after the deal first started coming together, Twenty-First Century Fox has announced that The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of its film and TV assets is now complete and will become effective as of 12:02 AM, Wednesday, March 20th.
Disney originally reached an agreement to purchase Fox back in December 2017 for $52.4 billion, only for Comcast to enter the race, pushing the purchase price up to $71.3 billion.
The massive deal includes 20th Century Fox’s various film and TV studios, Star India, and Fox’s stakes in Hulu, Endemol, National Geographic and Tata Sky.
Some of the many properties which will now fall under the control of Disney include the X-Men and Fantastic Four rights and distribution rights to the original Star Wars, as well as Avatar, Alien, Predator, Planet of the Apes, Die Hard, Ice Age, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad!, Bob’s Burgers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Horror Story, Modern Family and The X-Files.
Expect an official announcement from Disney once the deal becomes effective at midnight.
