With the upcoming release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios is not only bringing the curtain down on Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also what has been described as one entire 22-movie story arc which began back in 2008 with the release of the first Iron Man.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been chatting about bringing to an end what he has dubbed ‘The Infinity Saga’, stating that:
“We wanted to bring to a conclusion a series of movies in a way that had never been done before. Harry Potter had an ending because there were only so many books. The Lord of the Rings too. But we thought, 22 movies in, wouldn’t it be fun to bring some finality to the storyline?”
Marvel has been keeping its post-Endgame plans tightly under wraps, and it will certainly be interesting to see where things are headed as we enter this second stage of the MCU – particularly as the X-Men and Fantastic Four are now under the control of Marvel following the completion of Disney’s Fox acquisition.
