Back in December (on Christmas Day, to be exact), The Mandalorian executive producer Jon Favreau revealed that IG-88 will be making his Star Wars return in the upcoming live-action series, and now Favreau has taken to Instagram to seemingly reveal that the droid bounty hunter will be voiced by What We Do In the Shadows and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi…

In addition to lending his voice to IG-88, Waititi is also one of several directors working on episodes of the Mandalorian alongside Favreau, The Clone Wars and Rebels veteran Dave Filoni, Better Call Saul and Jessica Jones‘ helmer Deborah Chow, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa and Bryce Dallas Howard.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ in late 2019 and sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
