The biggest film of the year – and possibly ever – began its international rollout on Wednesday, and given that it’s tracking an unprecedented worldwide opening weekend as high as a billion dollars, it will come as little surprise to hear that Avengers: Endgame is already shattering records.
By close of play on its first day, Endgame amassed $169 million from 24 markets, including a record-breaking first day in China where it pulled in a whopping $107.5 million (that’s also the second-biggest ever day in any single market after Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $119.1 million North American haul in 2015).
Endgame was above the opening numbers for Avengers: Infinity War in all 24 markets and is on course for an international opening weekend of $700 million or more, including $300 million from China. Assuming it also tops Infinity War’s record $257.7 million opening in North America, we may very well have our first movie to score a billion dollars in a single weekend.
