It’s been a season of transition for The Walking Dead, with the show saying goodbye to long-time stars Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan, as well as jumping forward in time as AMC and new showrunner Angela Kang attempted to breathe fresh life into the once must-see TV show.
Well, despite these efforts, ratings for the zombie drama continue to fall, with Sunday’s season nine finale ‘The Storm’ falling to an all-time low for the show’s finales.
Deadline reports that ‘The Storm’ scored 5 million views, including 2.4 million in the key 18-49 demographic, for a 1. rating. That’s down 37% in total viewers from the season eight finale from last year, and down 16% from the previous series low of season one’s finale back in 2010.
The Walking Dead has fallen a long way from its season five premiere high of 17.3 million viewers, but still remains a hugely important part of AMC’s programming. In addition to the already announced season ten and upcoming fifth season of the companion show Fear the Walking Dead, the network is also working on a brand new spinoff series, not to mention several TV movies with Andrew Lincoln reprising his role as Rick Grimes.
