Following their post-Decimation return in last month’s Avengers: Endgame, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes are set to reunite next year for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Stan has been chatting to Comic Book about his hopes for his character in the Marvel Studios-produced Disney+ limited series.
“I think it’s time for Bucky to go out there and have an identity outside of the circumstances that we’ve met him through,” said Stan. “So, I don’t know, he might do all kinds of things. He might even go on a date. I don’t know. Scary world out there, you know? Apps, things like that. I don’t know what he’s gonna do. I can’t see him on an iPhone…I think it’s gonna be a lot of dealing with Anthony’s character and Anthony himself which is always another character.”
Plot details for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are being kept under wraps, but the series will presumably explore how both characters move on following the retirement(is that right word?) of Steve Rogers in Endgame, as well as Sam’s transition into the new Captain America. According to reports, the show will also have a buddy comedy tone, which certainly intriguing given the characters’ chemistry in Captain America: Civil War.
In addition to Stan and Mackie, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will also see the return of their Civil War co-stars Daniel Bruhl (Zemo) and Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter). The six episode series is set to premiere on the Disney+ streaming service in August 2020.
