It looks like 20th Century Fox’s long-planned remake of the 1988 sci-fi buddy cop movie Alien Nation has become the latest project to fall casualty to the Disney takeover, with Variety reporting that the Mouse House has put the feature on hold.
Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud) signed on to write and direct Alien Nation back in 2016, but there had been no updates on the project since that point. However, rather than scrapping it completely as it did with Mouse Guard, Disney has opted against putting Alien Nation into turnaround, meaning it could potentially be revived at a later date.
The original Alien Nation was directed by Graham Baker and saw Mandy Patinkin playing Earth’s first alien police officer, who finds himself partnered up with James Caan’s racially insensitive veteran detective. A moderate success at the box office, the film went on to spawn a short-lived TV series and five made-for-TV movies, and a number of comics and books.
