UPDATE: It’s being reported today that John Cena has closed his deal to star in Fast & Furious 9, and is now officially on board for the next instalment in the hugely successful action series. Original story follows…
Dwayne Johnson may be sitting out the next instalment of the main Fast & Furious series after branching out with the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, but franchise lead Vin Diesel has shared a video to Instagram announcing that another WWE legend will be joining the crew for Fast & Furious 9 in Bumblebee star John Cena.
“Guys, as you know, I’m always thinking Fast, and thinking about the responsibility of making something iconic and deserving of your loyalty. I know this sounds crazy, but every blue moon I feel like Pablo [Paul Walker] up there sends me someone. Another soldier in the fight for truth. Today, someone came by Toretto Gym that speaks to what Pablo would have brought,” states Diesel in the video, with the camera then panning to reveal Bumblebee star Cena. Check it out here…

This marks the second high profile casting for Cena this month following the news that he is set to appear in an as-yet-unrevealed role in James Gunn’s DC supervillain sequel/reboot The Suicide Squad.
Fast & Furious 9 is being directed by franchise veteran Justin Lin, and is slated for release on May 22nd 2020.
