If you cast your mind back a few years, you may recall that John Turturro started shooting a movie entitled Going Places, a loose remake of the 1974 French film Les Valseuses, which was subsequently revealed to be a spinoff from The Big Lebowski, with Turturro returning to the role of Jesus Quintana.
Well, it seems the film is finally set to see the light of day, with Deadline reporting that Screen Media has snapped up the rights to the movie – now titled The Jesus Rolls – with plans to release it early in the New Year.
Directed by Turturro (with the blessing of – but no involvement from – The Big Lebowski directors Joel and Ethan Coen), The Jesus Rolls also features a cast that includes Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, Jon Hamm, Susan Sarandon and Pete Davidson. A synopsis for the film, first revealed back in 2016, reads:
John Turturro plays Jesus Quintana in ‘The Jesus Rolls,’ a film about a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.
