Having secured a showrunner back in December in Stephen Schiff (The Americans), it seems that Lucasfilm may now have found one of its directors for the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series focussing on Diego Luna’s Rebel spy Cassian Andor.
According to a report from Discussing Film, Lucasfilm is in talks with Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa, who is said to have impressed the studio with his directing work on two episodes on its first live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Apparently an offer is on the table for the Cassian series, while he is also attached to return for episodes of the second season of The Mandalorian, which creator Jon Favreau recently announced he’s now actively working on.
The as-yet-untitled Cassian series will see Diego Luna reprising is role, and has been created and written by Jared Bush (Moana). It is described as “a rousing spy thriller [which will] explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”
Production on the series is rumoured to begin in October ahead of a 2020 premiere on Disney+.
