Having been linked to the director’s chair last week alongside Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), it has now been announced that Andy Serkis is set to direct Sony’s superhero sequel Venom 2.
Serkis, whose directorial credits include Breathe and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, revealed the news on Twitter, stating that: “It’s happening. The Symbiote has found a host in me and I’m ready for the ride. Can’t Wait!”

Venom proved to be a huge success for Sony last year, the Ruben Fleischer-directed, Tom Hardy-headlined blockbuster grossing $856 million worldwide.
Hardy is confirmed to reprise his role as Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, and is expected to do battle with another fan favourite symbiote in Carnage, with Woody Harrelson making a brief post-credits cameo as the serial killer Kletus Casady in the first movie.
Venom 2 is currently without an official release date, although Sony does have an October 2020 date earmarked for an ‘Untitled Marvel/Sony Sequel’.
