Paramount Pictures looks set to expand the G.I. Joe franchise beyond next year’s G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes solo movie, with THR reporting that the studio is developing a new ensemble spinoff featuring the character of Chuckles.
The as-yet-untitled film is being scripted by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, as well as working on the script for the as-yet-unrealised G.I. Joe 3, a.k.a. G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant.
Part of the original A Real American Hero line and introduced, Chuckles is the Joes’ resident infiltration specialist and skilled in undercover work. The character was absent from Paramount’s first two live-action movies, but did make an appearance in 1987’s G.I. Joe: The Movie animated feature.
Paramount’s Snake Eyes movie is set for release on October 16th 2020 and has Robert Schwentke (RED, R.I.P.D.) directing from a script by Evan Spiliotopolous (Beauty and the Beast). The studio also remains in development on the third movie in the main team series, although there’s no word on a potential timeframe for that at present.
