Although there hasn’t been an official renewal announcement from Disney or Lucasfilm as of yet, creator Jon Favreau revealed back in July that he was already working on the second season of the live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian ahead of the show’s premiere on Disney+ next month.
Favreau has stated that he’s hoping to get behind the camera to helm an episode or two in season two, having been too busy with The Lion King to do so on the first season, and now reporter Anthony Breznican has revealed on Twitter that actor Carl Weathers will also be slipping into the director’s chair for an episode.

Weathers stars in The Mandalorian as the character of Grief Carga, the head of a bounty hunter guild, who hires Pedro Pascal’s mysterious gunslinger for a highly valuable contract. The Rocky and Predator star does have past directing experience, with credits in the likes of Silk Stalkings, Sheena and Hawaii Five-0.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Natalie Tena (Game of Thrones), Bill Burr (F Is for Family), Mark Boone Junior (Batman Begins), Julia Jones (Westworld) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
