Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has confirmed that Shazam! actor Zachary Levi was considered for the role of Star-Lord before the final decision landed on Chris Pratt.
Recently, Gunn opened up a Q&A on his Instagram to which a fan asked the director if the reports of Levi being considered for Star-Lord were true, to which he responded with:
“Yes. And he was amazing,” Gunn said. “So when Peter Safran, the producer of Shazam, came to me asking about who would be good as the [Shazam] I strongly suggested Zach. I’ve been told by Peter and the DC folks that’s what got the ball rolling. But I think it was Zachary Levi’s immense talent that did that.”
Levi responded on his own Instagram Story, thanking the filmmaker. “And brother, it means the absolute world,” Levi wrote (via ComicBook). “Thanks for seeing that in me, and sharing that conviction with others. It helped literally change my life. I hope we get to work together at some point soon.”
