Turner & Hooch TV series in development for Disney+

December 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It looks like the classic buddy comedy Turner & Hooch may be the next movie to get the TV treatment on Disney+, with Deadline reporting that Burn Notice creator Matt Nix is developing a small screen adaptation of the 1989 Tom Hanks film.

According to Deadline, details on the potential series are scarce, save for the fact that it will keep the same concept as the movie, which paired Tom Hanks’ police detective Turner with Hooch (Beasley the Dog), a large, boisterous dog who he takes in after his owner (and Turner’s long time friend) is murdered.

The original film was a smash hit at the box office back in 1989, grossing $71 million from a $13 million budget. The following year, ABC produced a pilot for a half hour comedy series starring Thomas F. Wilson and Beasley, although it failed to make it to series.
