Director of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, James Gunn, says there is no rivalry between Marvel and DC.
Because Marvel and DC are the two biggest names in superhero movies, a certain rivalry is sure to exist between the two, not just among fans of the respective worlds but also between the companies themselves.
However, James Gunn, who has directed two Guardians movies for Marvel movies so far and is currently helming the upcoming DC title The Suicide Squad, says he has experienced no rivalry at all. Answering a fan’s question about the topic on Twitter, Gunn said:
“Honest to God, I can’t remember anyone at either Marvel or DC ever condemning the other company. I think there’s probably slightly less competition between Marvel & DC than between Marvel or DC & all other movies. After all, we are in very similar boats, relatively speaking.”

Perhaps both companies believe there is enough room out there for everyone to do well in the superhero movie space. Either way, fans get double the amount of comic book goodness with both of them around.
