After losing its latest director Travis Knight (Bumblebee) last month, Deadline is reporting that Sony has identified Zombieland and Venom helmer Ruben Fleischer as the man to finally bring the long-planned Uncharted movie to the big screen.
According to the trade, Fleischer leads the shortlist to replace Knight (who replaced Dan Trachtenberg, who replaced Shawn Levy, who replaced Seth Gordon, who replaced Neil Burger, who replaced David O. Russell), although as yet no deal is in place.
Sony will be looking to move quickly, given that the studio has put the Naughty Dog video game adaptation on the fast track and hopes to begin production early this year, with Tom Holland playing treasure hunter Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan.
Fleischer is coming off two movies at Sony in Venom and Zombieland: Double Tap, and the Uncharted gig is said to be “his if he wants it”.
