Taika Waititi on whether he would want to direct a Star Wars feature film

January 14, 2020 by Liam Waddington

While speaking to Variety, actor-director Taika Waititi has claimed he has no plans to direct a Star Wars feature film but would want to if Lucasfilm came knocking in the future.

“Oh, I don’t know anything about that, but The Mandalorian was my chance to work with some stormtroopers,” Waititi began. “Yes. Obviously I would, but I’m going to just settle for IG-11 being the hero of the entire season.”

Waititi has already taken his talents to the galaxy far, far away by not only playing IG-11 in the first season of The Mandalorian, he also directed the season finale which was met with a positive reception by Star Wars fans.

However, it seems unlikely that Waititi will be directing a full Star Wars feature film right now due to a busy schedule which includes the currently in production Next Goal Wins, writing and directing Thor: Love and Thunder, and directing the Time Bandits TV pilot.
