Westworld’s Game of Thrones crossover was George R.R. Martin’s idea

March 26, 2020 by Samuel Brace

The creators of Westworld say that the idea to crossover with Game of Thrones was George R.R. Martin’s idea.

In the most recent episode of Westworld, two of HBO’s biggest shows collided. During a scene that saw Bernard walking through the underground labs, we got a glimpse of a fantasy looking park, with a cameo from the infamous Game of Thrones dragon Drogon.

Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of the show, spoke to Variety about how it came together, revealing that it was Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin who suggested it:

“We’re also friendly with George R.R. Martin, and George had consistently since the first season said, ‘We’ve got to do a tie-in with Game of Thrones. People forget that George was originally a TV writer and he came up in the TV world in which you’d occasionally have these crossover shows, which the fans would fucking freak out over. So George had always been pitching the crossover show.”

It was certainly a fun moment for fans of both shows and cool to see a glimpse at yet another park. Did you enjoy the cameo? Let us know in the comments or on our on social media @flickeringmyth…

Westworld season 3 airs on Sundays on HBO.
