Just weeks after news broke that Spyglass is working on a new Hellraiser film, it seems the franchise will be making its way to the small screen too as Deadline is reporting that HBO has made a deal to develop a series from Clive Barker’s classic horror franchise.
The Hellraiser HBO series will see David Gordon Green (Halloween) helming the first few episodes of the series as well as serving as one of the executive producers.
Joining Green on writing duties are action and horror mainstays Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Gallactica, Heroes), and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Trick r’ Treat), who will also executive produce alongside Roy Lee (It), Dan Farah (Ready Player One), and Green’s Rough House Pictures partners Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Brandon James.
This deal marks the first time Pinhead and the other Cenobites will appear in a television series after four theatrical films and six direct-to-video releases. The idea for the series is to create an expansion of the established Hellraiser mythos, serving not as a remake but rather a continuation of the past mythology.
