Universal Pictures is developing a feature adaptation of the graphic novel Dan and Sam from creators Mark Watson and Oliver Harud.
Published in 2015, Dan and Sam follows a young Japanese woman, Sam, who suffers from cerebral palsy. When she dies in the arms of her lover Sam dies in Dan’s arms after an accident, “Dan is granted a reprieve – Sam can return to him for one night of the year, every year, until he falls in love again. And though Dan knows that no one could ever take Sam’s place in his heart, he faces an impossible choice.”

Dan and Sam is set to be directed by Japanese filmmaker Hikari (37 Seconds) from a script by Molly Smith Metzler (The Thing About Jellyfish).
