Ahmed Best describes his new Jedi character in Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge

June 3, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge is a new game show for kids and it stars Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best in his return to the franchise.

After initially appearing in Star Wars – Episode 1: The Phantom Menace as Jar Jar Binks, Ahmed Best was exposed to the worst side of movie and Star Wars fandom. The character didn’t go down well and it led Best to the point of suicide.

Best survived the ideal, however, and is now triumphantly returning to Star Wars for a new kids game show called Jedi Temple Challenge. Best plays the Jedi host Kelleran Beq, who guides padawans through a series of trials to become Jedi Knights.

Best described his character to ABC: “Kelleran is the ultimate temple master. He can appear to be kind of funny, kind of goofy. He gets ribbed a lot by AD-3, the droid. But at the end of the day, what Kelleran Beq is trying to do is make you the best Jedi that you can be.”

Discussing his enjoyment in playing the role, he said: “I loved watching kids step on that set and just be marveled at it. And I want kids to watch it and feel like, ‘if I train, if I practice, if I work, I can actually be there.”

Best also says that Kelleran is related to a character he cameoed as in Star Wars – Episode II: Attack of the Clones, named Achk Med-Beq: “We don’t know if they are twin brothers, or if Kelleran is Ach Med-Beq’s father or son. Also, there’s a relationship between Mace Windu and Kelleran Beq.”

It’s great to see Best back in the Star Wars fold and it seems like he and fans have put the awful events of the past behind them. Hopefully, the show goes down well and will be the lasting memory Best has of his time with the franchise.

Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge will premiere on June 3rd on the Star Wars Kids website and YouTube channel.
